Still looking for that perfect pumpkin in Chico, CA?

Entries were made by many local schoolchildren, as well as businesses. The winner was awarded a $1000 prize! We especially liked reading the banners the younger children had on their scarecrows. The theme was “It’s okay….” We saw everything from “It’s okay to have big ears” to “It’s okay to like Superman!” There were definitely some scarecrows wearing their hearts on their sleeves! Other fun activities included a hay pyramid, horse-drawn wagon rides, corn maze, live music, and roping arena. There is also a small country store with plenty of local treats. The little ones will especially enjoy the duck pond and farm animals.
The Book Family Farm will be open to the public thru Wedneday, October 31st 2007 from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday-Saturday, and Sundays 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Sandi - I love hearing about the Chico pumpkin patch. I’ve subscribed so I don’t miss any hot real estate and community news in Chico California - thanks.
Cyndee- Thanks for stopping by (and subscribing). Hopefully there will be lots of hot news here when you visit! lol.
Sandi - I love the scarecrows. What darling little people! The book farm sounds like a great place for a family outing.
Ashley- The scarecrows were definitely a treat- Book’s has a 2 acre lawn area that had all sorts of fun entries. I bet the kids had a great time, each creating their “own” little scarecrow!
I loved this article! I have driven by the Book Family farm many times during different seasons. There always seems to be something going on, but from the freeway, it was difficult to see exactly what was happening. Now I know when that huge field of corn turns brown, its not time to tear down the stalks, but time to get in there and find a way through the maze!
Recently, when my husband and I drove by, the parking lot was filled with cars. I could see the scarecrows you mentioned lined up around the huge grassy area, with people milling around.
What fun! I think I’m going to have to stop in one of these days. Do they do anything special for Christmas?
Singjoy- I too, had never visited Book’s Farm, although we had driven by it over and over. The maze was pretty fun, and challenging for the little guys. It actually feels a LOT bigger once you get in there!
I haven’t read any activities geared specifically towards Christmas, but they do have a couple of horse-drawn carriages that would be fun to rent from Christmas caroling!
